Tulle is the core fabric of the bridal and evening-wear industry. But "tulle" is not a single material — it is a family of products that differ in pore structure, handle and durability. Choosing the right tulle directly determines drape, resistance to embellishment and the final garment’s stand. This manufacturer’s guide covers the five main tulle types and their applications.
Hayal tulle, with its soft handle, fine pores and fluid drape, is the core fabric of wedding gowns and veils. It shapes easily in layered work, adding volume without a sense of weight — ideal for romantic, flowing silhouettes. Standard width is 300 cm, reducing the need for seams on wide skirts and ruffles.
Crystal tulle, with its crystalline shine and crisp stand, is essential for voluminous skirts, princess styles and decorative work. Its light-reflecting structure is also preferred for interior and stage applications. It has a firmer handle than hayal tulle — an advantage where the design needs to hold shape.
Kom tulle is the classic veil fabric that keeps its form thanks to a dense weave. It safely carries embroidery, stone and bead applications, so it is widely used in embellished veils and accessories. The dense weave also means fewer runs at cut edges.
With its square-pore woven structure, square mesh tulle gives clean shapes in decoration, packaging and craft work thanks to a firm handle. It is also used in curtains and decorative applications. Pore size is more pronounced than in classic tulle.
Insect-screen mesh is produced for window systems and technical applications with a durable, dense-pore structure. It is function-driven rather than decorative — a technical supply item sold by the roll.
Selection rests on three criteria: handle (soft or crisp), pore structure (will it carry embellishment) and width/weight (how many metres you can work without waste). For a bridal base, start with hayal; for voluminous skirts, crystal; for embroidered veils, kom. On wholesale orders, confirming handle and colour on a sample card prevents batch variation in series production.
